Soapstone and Granite
14”x14”x14”
Private Collection
Having cultivated plants all my life, carving them in stone came very naturally for me. Petra Flora allowed me to bring the Magnolia's beauty to the surface, using rhythm, light, and the texture of stone. I selected the stones for this sculpture to reflect different features of the plant, with soapstone representing the softness of the flowers and granite representing the durability and longevity of the tree itself. This piece was purchased by the National Institutes of Health for display in their new Rehabilitation Center in Bethesda, MD.
